Degrees of Separation: Contemporary Photography from the Permanent Collection (2010-2011)
Rebeca Bollinger works in the realm of the digital. Along with using her own digital photographs as sources, she collects and recirculates images from the Internet, giving them another form, another life. For Truck Stop, Bollinger removed portions of a digital photograph and then superimposed it with collaged cutouts. The effect is that of a half-finished illustration with large patches of white areas and imagery broken down into basic components such as shape and color. We see evidence of a car, a tree, a stop sign, and an upside-down recycling bin—fragments of an incomplete landscape.
